Which social networks suit your business?

Each network has its own crowd and its own style. Here's who you'll find on each one and what kind of post does well there. Not sure which to pick? We'll help you choose.

  • Facebook

Your local community, all in one place

    Who's there
The widest mix of ages, especially over-30s and parents. Lots of people use local Facebook groups to find a trusted tradesperson.
    What works
Photos of your jobs, offers, news, events and customer reviews. A friendly, chatty tone, and longer captions are fine.
    Good for
Almost every local business: trades, shops, cafés, salons, clubs and classes.
  • Instagram

    Where good-looking work gets noticed

    Who's there
A younger crowd than Facebook, mostly under-40s, who scroll for pictures that catch the eye.
    What works
Strong photos, before and after slides, short Reels and Stories. Keep captions short and let the picture do the talking.
    Good for
Work that photographs well: kitchens, floors, gardens, hair, food, fashion and dance.
  • TikTok

    Short, fun videos with personality

    Who's there
Mostly teens to people in their 30s, though older viewers are joining too. People watch whatever it shows them, not just people they follow.
    What works
Quick upright videos: behind the scenes, a job from start to finish, a handy tip. The first two seconds have to grab them.
    Good for
Businesses with a bit of character, and anyone selling to younger customers.
  • YouTube

    Where people search for how-tos

    Who's there
Almost everyone. People search YouTube like Google, for how-to videos, reviews and "is it worth it?" answers.
    What works
YouTube Shorts (the same upright videos as Reels and TikTok) and longer videos that answer a real question.
    Good for
Showing your know-how: trades, repairs, fitness, training and anything people want to learn.
  • LinkedIn

    The professional crowd

    Who's there
Business owners, managers and professionals, there for work, not for fun.
    What works
Your expertise, finished projects, team news and milestones. A professional but human tone, and useful tips.
    Good for
Selling to other businesses: accountants, solicitors, consultants and commercial contractors. Also handy for hiring.
  • X (Twitter)

    Fast news and quick updates

    Who's there
People who follow news, sport and local goings-on, plus journalists and local councils.
    What works
Short, timely posts: today's news, opening-time changes, quick offers, local events. It moves fast, so posting often helps.
    Good for
Businesses with news to share: venues, events, sports clubs and anything happening today.
  • Pinterest

Ideas boards for people planning ahead

    Who's there
People planning something: a new kitchen, a wedding, a garden or a new look. Many are deciding what to buy.
    What works
Tall, good-looking pictures and ideas. Every pin links to your website, and a good pin keeps getting found for months.
    Good for
Home and garden trades, weddings, interiors, crafts, food and fashion.
  • Threads

    Instagram's chattier side

    Who's there
Instagram users in a talking mood. It's linked to Instagram, so your followers there can find you easily.
    What works
Short text posts, questions, quick thoughts and a friendly chat. Less polish, more personality.
    Good for
Businesses already on Instagram who want to chat with their followers too.
  • Bluesky

A newer, friendlier home for short posts

    Who's there
A smaller crowd than X, many of whom moved over from it: creative people, tech fans and journalists.
    What works
Short text posts, links to your news and useful tips. A calm, friendly tone.
    Good for
Getting in early on a newer network, especially for creative and professional services.

What our clients say

Google review

I couldn’t recommend Mike @ Borg Digital more highly. He’s completely transformed my website, which looks amazing. Since he took over, I’ve seen a big increase in traffic and Google hits. He knows SEO inside out IMO and is quick, professional and very reasonably priced.
